Sport in Scoil Íosagáin

In Scoil Íosagáin we value and invest time in movement and physical exercise for our young children. Physical activity is very important, particularly at an early age,  to develop muscle, co-ordination, balance and strength as well as having a very positive impact on children’s health, well-being and enjoyment of fun physical activity.

In addition to our school programme of physical activity, we had an extra input of fun and enjoyment of physical sport and activity during the month of May. We had a very successful bike day where all classes took park in riding bikes/scooters in our school yard. All children were kitted out with helmets to ensure their safety.

We also held a very enjoyable Sports Day. All pupils took part in circuits, football, parachute games, tennis and had fun with hula hoops, bean bags and space hoppers and the three-legged race! We had some very tired children that evening!

Esther O’Leary, our GAA coach, also introduced our young pupils to hurling/camogie skills. With ‘Hurl Ógs,’ helmets and bean bags the children took to it immediately, wondering when their first match would take place!
