Science Week took place in November, and we had very busy little scientists in Scoil Iosagáin. For us in Scoil Iosagáin, Science Week is about sensory exploration and simple observations. The focus is on engaging the senses and sparking curiosity about how things work.
Children enjoyed making rainbows, volcanoes, watching dancing raisins. We also measured rain puddles and rainfall throughout the day. We had lots of fun exploring what sinks or floats. We also went on a Nature Scavenger Hunt.
Our theme this month was House and Homes. We built houses of cardboard, of matchsticks and of blocks. We explored all the rooms in a house and use of each room. We picked out the correct furniture for each room. We used Playdough to make things you would find in a house, like cushions for the sofa, cars for the garage, flowers for the garden and food for the kitchen. We had great fun with role play based on the ‘Three Little Pigs.’
We also learned about different types of homes, such as mobile homes, boat houses and igloos.
Christmas came early to Scoil Iosagáin, as Transition Year pupils from St. Mary’s Secondary School, hosted Breakfast with the Elves on November 24th. Our ‘Elves’ supplied a cereal breakfast for all our children, while entertaining them with Christmas songs. This was a most enjoyable experience for all concerned.
