Our Wellbeing Week 28th of March – 1st of April 2022
Monday March the 28th marked the start of our Wellbeing Week. The week was held as part of our campaign to earn the Amber Flag for our school. The Amber Flag is an initiative run by Pieta House to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in schools and communities across Ireland.
Each day had a specific name so the first day of our wellbeing week was “Mindful Monday”. The children got to take part in an African Drumming lesson on this day and they loved it!! Each day also had wellness quote and a mindful activity for the children to do in their own classrooms. A video clip was also shared each day by a familiar face sharing their #HealthyHeadHack, which was their top tip on looking after their mental health. We would like to thank all of those who so kindly took the time to share their tips with the children.
Day 2 was “Thankful Tuesday” where the children learned the importance of gratitude and being grateful for everything we have in our lives, even the little things!
Day 3 was “Wellness Wednesday” where the children discussed a positive emotion potion of the things that make them happy or feel better whenever they are feeling down. They also got the opportunity to take part in a beautiful yoga session with Mrs. Hooper in the halla. This was so relaxing and the children thoroughly enjoyed chilling out and feeling zen!
Day 4 was “Triumphant Thursday”. On this day, the children were encouraged to celebrate all that is special and unique about themselves. We watched a beautiful video called “The Reflection in Me” where the children were taught that we are all different but that we are all worthy and wonderful in our own ways! We had a lovely Teddy Bears Picnic outside. This was a wonderful way to come together as a whole school and celebrate well-being together. The staff also had a lovely wellness brunch after school on Thursday!

Our final day of our well-being week was “Feel Good Friday!”. Each class group went to the hall for a “Hooley in the Halla” to celebrate everything they achieved and enjoyed during the week. We sang some songs with Ms. Guerin and did a mindful activity while listening to relaxing music and to finish we had a dance party! Junior and Senior Infants have certainly got some great dance moves!

From glitter jars, mindful moments, positive emotion potions, yoga, African drumming, Teddy Bears picnic, and chocolate meditation, our wellbeing week was a great success and the children really enjoyed engaging in the activities of each day. We hope you enjoyed following along on our Padlet throughout the week! You can still access the padlet if you would like to see or do any of the activities again!
