November

Our Winter theme has begun in Scoil Iosagáin, with children exploring how nature adapts to this season. We explored Nature’s Winter sleep, trees losing their leaves, hibernation, days becoming shorter and darker evenings.

As we do in the month of November, we remembered all our loved ones, who are no longer with us, in our religious theme –  In November We Remember. We lit a candle and children placed names of passed love ones , on our Remembrance Tree.

We also conducted Science Experiments, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The children experienced how raisins ‘danced’, in sparkling water, yet remained sunken in still water. They created beautiful rainbows, by adding water to a circle of skittles. We also created ‘ exploding volcanoes’, using lemons, red food colouring and baking soda.

Children made pictures to illustrate the results of the experiments, and thoroughly enjoyed being active in these experiments.

Experimentation and Discovery are part of our learning and engage children in active learning and information finding, creating a foundation for inquisitive minds going forward.
