This month we focussed on Wellbeing. This is an area that schools focus on throughout the year to support children’s social, emotional and physical development. It enables children to develop self- awareness and knowledge, build life skills, and develop a strong sense of connection to their school, their community and wider society.
Wellness is underpinned by specific programmes taught in our school, such as SPHE ( Social, Personal and Health Education), Stay Safe and the RSE programme.
We gave particular attention to this area in the week leading up to the Easter holidays. We had fun days with the children, Odd – Socks Day – to support Down’s Syndrome Ireland, Crazy Hair Day, Pyjama Day and a Yard Disco! We also visited our local playground in Castle Park, where the children enjoyed all the wonderful amenities there.
We took full advantage of the lovely weather, and all classes got to spend a block of time in our Outdoor Classroom. Here they enjoyed gardening, baking at the mud kitchens, playing in the sand pit, water play, using construction toys, playing at the sensory table, and painting at our art easels.
We like to focus on learning in the outdoors for our young children. It is an environment that all children feel happy and content in. We focus on creativity and discovery. Children feel relaxed and free to explore and experiment outside of the classroom.
We also held an Easter Assembly with prayer and song focussing on the Easter Story and the joy of the Resurrection.
Children painted lovely Easter eggs in many colours and enjoyed mini-egg treats also. It was a truly wonderful week.
Wishing you all a Happy and Holy Easter
