Maths for Fun
Over the coming weeks we will be partaking in our annual Maths for Fun experience. Each May ask for volunteers to come into our school and help us to create smaller groups of children. We then play maths games for 40 minutes on a Friday morning.
There is a great buzz of fun and laughter around the classroom as children count, and problem solve their way through each maths game. The children rotate around the room after six or seven minutes at each game. This ensures that all children get a go at all games.
The interactions between the children and our volunteers is lovely to see. Children are using the maths skills they have been working on all year in a very practical way.
Playing the games encourages communication skills such as listening and responding and turn taking. We love our Maths for Fun Time in Scoil Íosagáin. Thanks to all the volunteers and to Ms. Hooper for coordinating the event in our school this year.
