On February the 1st we celebrated two things in Scoil Íosagáin. It was St. Bridgid’s Day and we also welcomed the Grandparents of our children into our school. We celebrated with a cup of tea and some buns for our visitors in the halla. Fr. Damien Lynch, our chaplin and member of our Board of Management blessed the St. Bridgid’s Crosses. He also gave a blessing to all the grandparents of Scoil Íosagáin.
The grandparents then went to the children’s classrooms. Our pupils sang songs, recited poems, and shared their art work with their Grandparents. The children got the opportunity to ask the grandparents about their time in school. To hear the generational difference in schooling was so interesting. Some of our Junior Infants were aghast that there was no TV in their Grandparents school!
Grandparents who were away were also mentioned and thought of in each classroom. Some children even brought in photos of their grandparents who could not join us. It was such a joyous occasion which was enjoyed by children, staff and grandparents.
